Meghan Markle Shared a Never-Before-Seen Selfie From her Second Date with Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry met nine years ago. After falling under each other’s spell after a successful first date, the British royal and American actor decided to meet again the next day at London’s Soho House. It was July 4, 2016.
To mark the anniversary of their second date, the Duchess of Sussex unveiled a never-before-seen photo captured that day on Instagram. Slide two of the post featured a sweet selfie captured by a smiling Prince Harry. In the image, he embraces Meghan Markle, who had her head resting against his shoulder.
With their date falling on Independence Day, the Brit brought red white and blue cupcakes embellished with the date. “H brought me cupcakes to celebrate,” she recalled on Instagram, sharing a pic of one little cake in slide three.
“Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition,” Markle continued in the caption, revealing that Archie and Lilibet helped with the batch of cupcakes in slideshow’s first photo, three of which featured red, white, and blue icing with chocolate peace signs. The other three featured white icing with blueberries and strawberries.

Prince Harry previously recalled their second date in the pages of his memoir The Spare. “She walked in, wearing a pretty blue sundress with white pinstripes,” Harry wrote. “She was aglow. I stood and said, ‘I bear gifts.’ A pink box. I held it forward. She shook it. ‘What’s this?’”
“Cupcakes. Red, white, and blue cupcakes, to be exact,” he continued. “In honor of Independence Day. I said something about the Brits having a very different view of Independence Day from the Yanks, but, oh well.”
He continued, “Again the conversation flowed, crackled. Burgers came and went, uneaten. I felt an overwhelming sense of Overture, Prelude, Kettle Drums, Act I. And yet also a sense of ending. A phase of my life—the first half?—was coming to a close.”
