The Rhode Glazing Mist Is the Do-It-All Summer Skin Care Product You Need

IMO, face mists are criminally underrated beauty products, and the new Rhode Glazing Mist is proof. Trust me, I understand how some people can be skeptical: Why would you need to spray a mist on your face when you can just apply moisturizer and serum? It’s much easier to write off face mists as glorified spray bottles and call it a day. But here’s the thing: You might want to reframe your thinking.
To start, I’ve never expected a face mist to operate the same way my core skin care products do. Can it add a boost of hydration to dry skin? Absolutely. But a face mist has other functions outside of just skin care—which I find much more valuable and important.
First, there’s the sensorial experience. On a hot day, a face mist can be a lifesaver when it comes to cooling down, soothing the senses, and calming redness and irritation. But there’s another key function that some people may not have even discovered: Face mists are essential for retouching and reapplying makeup.
Is your foundation looking a little cakey? Did your concealer wear off and you need to apply more? Applying a mist is essential whenever you want to fix up your complexion. As Glamour’s senior beauty editor, I’ve picked up this tip from top makeup artists, who swear by lightly spritzing on a mist and letting it sit before adding more makeup. The extra moisture will help reactivate your foundation and concealer, creating an easier blend when you’re applying new products on top of existing makeup. It will also soften any caked-up powder and help prevent further caking.
Rhode’s Glazing Mist does all this and more. Whether I spray it onto my bare skin or a full face of makeup, it leaves my complexion feeling rehydrated and gives me the most unreal glow. Best of all, I actually consider it to be a solid skin care product. The key ingredient is ectoin, a moisture-binding amino acid that supports hydration and the skin barrier. The mist dispenses in a superfine cloud that hugs your skin and covers every inch. Although the feel is lightweight, it’s deeply moisturizing—so much so, that I sometimes use it alone as a light moisturizer.
Sprayed on top of makeup, it gives you that dewy look Rhode’s founder, Hailey Bieber, is known for. I have to admit, I’m not much of a dewy girl and much prefer a matte look. But the glowy finish the Glazing Mist imparts isn’t greasy. The best way to describe it is “glazed” (Bieber didn’t coin the beauty look “glazed-donut skin” for nothing!), and it gives your skin a reflective quality I’ve never seen in a face mist before. After a sweaty 90-degree day, I touched up my makeup with a spritz and easily blended in new foundation and concealer.
