Nicole Kidman’s New Copper Bangs Are Really An Old Favorite

Key Takeaways
- Nicole Kidman showed off a set of wispy copper bangs for her first day back on the Practical Magic sequel set.
- The famous hairstyle, which is so very ’90s Kidman, looks just as amazing today.
I was approximately one year old when the Practical Magic movie came out, which is a good thing because I’ve never had to live in a world without it and a bad thing because I didn’t have the wherewithal to see its immediate cultural impact. I’d like to know how many people grew their hair long and cut bangs after seeing Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock do their thing as a redhead and brunette sister witch duo back in ’98. Was the soundtrack playing everywhere? Were covens formed?
We’ll find out next fall, I suppose! Practical Magic 2 is officially in production, set to premiere in September 2026. I’m sure it’ll be great and the reception will be even greater—just look how excited the world was to see Kidman’s bright red hair and bangs reappear.
Nicole Kidman’s Wispy Copper Bangs
Over the weekend, Kidman posted an Instagram reel highlighting the “Owens sisters’ first day on set.” “The witches are back,” she wrote, alongside a clip of herself and Bullock embracing in front of a gravestone. I would know those ladies anywhere, with their long dresses and big smiles. But it was a set of wispy copper-colored bangs that really brought the 58-year-old into character.

Falling right past eyebrow length, the delicate fringe is cut in a blunt line that’s softened up by its lightness and general piece-y look—a classic Birkin bang setup. The rest of Kidman’s copper locks were thrown back in a low ponytail, gently easing us back into that Gilly Owens length and coolness.
Nicole Kidman’s Red Hair
Back when the movie originally premiered, Kidman was wearing her hair red most of the time. These days, she’s more apt to switch it up, going from an icy blonde one day to a strawberry shade the next. But when she returns to warm copper… the world is at peace.

“Redhead Nicole Kidman will ALWAYS make me happy no matter what,” commented a fan on her post. Another famous sometimes-redhead, Lindsay Lohan, just added three heart emojis.

So, while we wait for more Gilly content, why not give her bangs (or hair color!) a try for yourself this year? Also: throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can.
