  • The base is brewed Red Zinger and Lemon Zinger teas that get sweetened with apple juice.
  • Garten says its a perfect drink for when last-minute guests come over.

During the lazy, hazy days of summer, nothing hits the spot like a tall glass of iced tea. And no one knows this better than Ina Garten, who used to make her living on that very principle. Back when she was running her gourmet shop, Barefoot Contessa, in the Hamptons, Garten would make gallons of her signature Iced Herbal Tea—and it only requires three ingredients.

In the latest edition of her Substack newsletter, Ina revealed that her simple recipe was a staple at Barefoot Contessa, and she shared how to make it on Instagram.

If you want to make this Hamptons-ready recipe yourself, you’ll just need Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger tea bags, Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger tea bags and 100% apple juice. If you’ve never had Lemon Zinger or Red Zinger teas, they’re both complex flavors headlined by tangy, fruity hibiscus. Hibiscus tea is loaded with health benefits, thanks in part to its antioxidants, which may reduce inflammation, cholesterol levels, blood pressure and blood sugar. It may also help support your immune system.

Combined with the apple juice, those hibiscus teas create a complex fruity flavor that will have you savoring every last sip.

And the recipe is simple: Steep all 8 tea bags in 4 cups of boiling water for 10 minutes and then discard the tea bags. Then, combine the tea with the apple juice and refrigerate until cold. Serve it over ice. This recipe makes 6 to 8 servings.

Serve it up with some of your favorite summertime recipes—like maybe Ina’s simple tomato salad and some delicious Grilled Red Snapper—and enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.
