More Than 600,000 Mini Fridges Recalled After Sparking, Smoking and Burning—Here's What to Know

  • More than 600,000 Frigidaire mini fridges have been recalled nationwide due to property damage and injury.
  • Four models sold at Walmart and on Amazon with a range of serial numbers are affected.
  • Consumers should stop using these products and contact the manufacturer for a refund.

An active nationwide recall on several models of Frigidaire mini fridges affects over 600,000 units, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall comes after at least 26 reports of the fridges smoking, burning, sparking, overheating or catching fire, resulting in $700,000 in property damage and two consumers reporting issues due to subsequent smoke inhalation.

The fridges were sold at Walmart stores nationwide, as well as on their website and on Amazon from January 2020 through December 2023, with prices ranging from $36 to $40. The following units are affected by the recall, and you should check your fridge’s model and serial number to find out if your product is included.

 Model Number Serial Number
EFMIS129Between A2001 to A2308 – if model number is “EFMIS129-B” or EFMIS129-C”, it is not included in this recall.
 EFMIS137Between A2001 to A2312
 EFMIS149Between A2001 to A2308
 EFMIS175Between A2001 to A2310

The fridges were sold in multiple colors, and this recall includes units in black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink and silver colors. It is suggested that consumers stop using the fridges immediately. If you have one of the refrigerators on hand, you can visit the manufacturer’s recall page to learn more information and receive a refund.

Curtis International, the manufacturer of the refrigerators, advises affected consumers to unplug and cut the power cord, write “recall” on the item, and then dispose of it in accordance with your local and state laws.
