Netflix renews ‘One Piece’ for Season 3 — and reveals epic first look at Season 2

Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece

With Japan’s annual One Piece Day winding down, Netflix marked the occasion with a bombshell of an announcement. Netflix unveiled a teaser trailer for “One Piece” Season 2, giving fans a first look at the Straw Hats’ next chapter on the high seas, and confirmed “One Piece” season 3 is already in the works. Given all the fanfare, it’s possible Netflix could be aiming to fast-track production this time around, a welcome change after having to wait almost three years between the first two seasons.

Production for Season 3 will kick off later this year in Cape Town, South Africa. No release window has been confirmed yet. Netflix also announced that “Marvel’s Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist” producer Ian Stokes will join “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” writer Joe Tracz at the helm for Season 3. Tracz became co-showrunner in Season 2 and has been shepherding the season through post-production following the departure of Season 1’s co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens in March.
