Emily Blunt’s Platinum Blonde Bob Could be a Major ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Easter Egg

This one seems a lot more on brand:

There’s been a lot of chatter about the way paparazzi photos are “ruining” movies, sparking discourse and theories that stick in our minds before the films have a chance to speak for themselves. While I’m inclined to agree, I have eyes and an imaginative brain, so unfortunately, I must share a theory about this latest round of images.

Prior to changing out of her shorts, Blunt was seen leaving her trailer in a pair of loose-fitting red pants that perfectly matched her Coach sweater, as well as a pair of low-key white sneakers. But I’d like to bring your attention to the Prada bag she’s carrying with her.

Now focus on the bag.

It’s unclear if this is Blunt’s personal Prada bag or part of her wardrobe, but it begs an interesting question: Who exactly is the devil in The Devil Wears Prada 2? In the opening scene of the 2006 film, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) strolls into Runway with a striking white Prada Spazzelato handbag, sartorially identifying our high-fashion antagonist right off the bat.

Now let’s talk about the sequel. According to Variety, “The storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She faces off against Blunt’s character, her one-time assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

As a writer who still loves traditional publishing, I know who I’m rooting for, but Blunt’s Prada bag could be a visual signal to viewers that the tides have changed. After all, Emily Charlton’s nearly-white hair is very Miranda Priestly-coded. But that’s not where my theory ends.

It’s still unclear how Andy Sachs will fit into all this, but we do see her wearing a pair of white Prada mohawk shoes in the sequel. Could we be looking at an adversarial team-up? Are Emily and Andy two sides of the same coin? Okay, time to take off my tin Prada hat for today.
