Julia Garner Just Shared Her Signature Dish

  • Julia Garner reveals her signature lasagna twist: adding pepperoni between the cheesy layers.
  • The actor’s Italian food favorites include spaghetti pomodoro, prosciutto-wrapped melon and Caprese salad.
  • While processed meat can have health risks, enjoying it in moderation is perfectly fine.

Julia Garner is all over the big screens this summer as the star of Weapons and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But whether you know her from these roles or from hits like Ozark and Inventing Anna, something you may not know about Garner is her love of food—specifically Italian staples.

In a recent video with Mythical Kitchen, the actor ate some of her favorite foods, including grilled halloumi, fattoush salad, Entenmann’s chocolate cake and Diet Coke. And for a true Italian feast, she also chowed down on Caprese salad, spaghetti pomodoro, cantaloupe wrapped with prosciutto and lasagna bolognese. She says she loves cooking Italian food as well as eating it, specifically the latter dish.

“I make good lasagna,” Garner shares while digging into the lasagna bolognese, noting that it’s the dish she would make to impress any guest.

But something that makes her lasagna special is a shocking ingredient. In between the layers of cheese and sauce of this baked pasta dish, Garner adds in slices of pepperoni. While non-traditional, the Emmy Award–winner promises that it’s “really good” and worth the try.

Although we’re fans of classic lasagna, incorporating pepperoni is definitely intriguing, and we believe Garner that it’s probably very tasty. It reminds us of how we include pepperoni in our own Dump & Bake Pizza Pasta Casserole for a savory, protein-packed bite. We also think Garner would love our highly-rated Zucchini Pizza Casserole, which can be served just like lasagna.

Since regularly eating processed or cured meats like pepperoni may cause an increased risk of colon cancer, moderation is key. At EatingWell, we believe that any food or drink can be included in a healthy eating pattern, and lasagna isn’t an everyday dinner, so adding in some delicious pepperoni slices is totally okay.
