Elle Fanning’s Short Brunette Bob Is So Unexpected

Key Takeaways
- Elle Fanning showed off a short brunette bob in the new trailer for her movie Sentimental Value.
- While it’s not the first time she’s transformed her famous blonde head for a role, the new style was still exciting (and surprising!) to see.
As a talented actress, I’m sure it’s so fun to regularly see yourself transformed for a role by equally talented hair and makeup teams. I’m looking at you, Nicole Kidman.
Nevertheless, if you were Elle Fanning with that gorgeous platinum hair, do you think turning your locks dark would do something weird to your personal psyche? I’m not sure; we’ll have to ask her. But until then… shall we talk about her new brunette bob?
Elle Fanning’s Brunette Bob
This week, the official trailer for Fanning’s new movie, Sentimental Value, finally dropped. In the film (it won the Grand Prix award at Cannes Film Festival this year), the 27-year-old plays an American actress who steps in to play the part of a famous Norwegian filmmaker’s dead wife after his daughter, also an actress, refuses to take the job. Naturally, she needs to look the part, which means dying her hair a simple brown color.
And there we have it: Fanning with a brunette bob.

The best glimpse at the haircut and color comes about a minute and 30 seconds into the trailer. The Georgia girl is shown crying with her short hair middle parted and dyed a solid medium-brown shade. Her strands fall right at shoulder length, tickling the collar of her simple Nordic sweater.
Elle Fanning’s Past Hair Transformations
Though we’ll always think of Fanning as having silky blonde hair, there have been other moments where she’s surprised us with a little transformation.

For A Complete Unknown, she wore her hair long and copper-colored to play Bob Dylan’s girlfriend, the Suze Rotolo-inspired Sylvie Russo. Last spring, she also chopped her long locks off for a non-movie-related bob (maybe she was inspired after filming?) that she’s since grown out.
The biggest takeaway here? Everyone needs to see this movie when it drops in November, and Fanning’s hair has some sentimental value of its own.
