Fox One streaming service finally has a release date and a price — here’s everything you need to know
Fox is officially jumping into the streaming wars.
The company announced today (Aug. 5) that Fox One, its new direct-to-consumer streaming service, will debut August 21. The platform promises to deliver live and on-demand access to Fox’s entire lineup across news sports, and entertainment — for $19.99 a month or $199.99 per year.
A teaser site is already live, though it currently just hints that the service is “coming soon.”
“We’re eager to launch Fox One in just a few weeks and super-serve our viewers with the best in live news, sports and entertainment content all in one place,” said Pete Distad, CEO of Direct to Consumer at Fox Corporation.
Here are the various channels you’ll have access to:
- FOX News Channel
- FOX Business
- FOX Weather
- FOX Sports
- FS1
- FS2
- FOX Deportes
- B1G
- FOX Local Stations
- FOX Network
Fox Nation and B1G+ will also be available on the platform, but will cost extra. Fox Nation can be bundled with Fox One for $24.99 per month.
The company also said that the service will use “advanced, AI-powered personalization technologies that seamlessly integrate live and video on-demand content in a cohesive experience.”
Who is this for?
At first glance, the sports offerings seem the most appealing especially since the launch of Fox One feels like fallout from the demise of Venu Sports, which was supposed to combine sports offerings from Disney, Fox and Warner Bros.. That service was scuttled in January.
Fox, like ESPN, offers a number of different sports, including NFL Games, the Big Ten NCAA conference, the MLB and LIV golf events.
However, most of Fox’s sports offerings are available via platforms like YouTube TV, the best live TV streaming service, or packaged together in services like NFL Sunday Ticket or MLB.TV.
Fox shows and movies are already available to stream via Hulu and Disney Plus, which also have entertainment from other brands. Unless Fox starts pulling its content from other services, there are better ways to see its content.
Additionally, Fox Nation being an additional cost might turn away customers who specifically want the U.S.-focused service offered by Fox News. A very specific person would want Fox News and Fox Business on one platform that isn’t connected to their cable bill or other streamers that already offer the channel.
Fox One launches on August 21 for $19.99 a month. There does not appear to be any deals to entice people to sign up.
