Martha Stewart Says This Kitchen Tool Needs Replacing

I’m the kind of person who tends to buy things for life—I don’t love replacing anything unless it’s necessary. This is especially true with kitchen gadgets, because even the little things are pricey. One item I cannot reuse over and over again, however, is kitchen towels. These things get put through the wringer. They’re used and washed on repeat and are eventually going to get pretty nasty. I’m not the only one who says so, either. Martha Stewart recommends swapping this essential item weekly

We found an old relic of an interview from 2009 in the Philadelphia Inquirer where Stewart said you should “change dishcloths at least once a week.” She also noted that sponges are another common kitchen tool that harbor heaps of bacteria. Because of that, the kitchen towel is the ideal do-it-all item to mop up spills, wipe up dishes, dry our hands and more. If you’re using them for as many things as you should be, they likely need to be replaced!

And, another reason to swap them out or refresh your collection? If you own microfiber towels, chances are, you’re releasing additional microplastics onto whatever you’re wiping them with. Yikes! Cotton kitchen towels are the way to go, according to experts. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a classic set like these from Zeppoli. Plus, they’re just $1.33 apiece.

These kitchen towels are touted by shoppers for their quick absorption, durability and versatility. They’re made from lightweight ring-spun cotton, so you can use them confidently without worrying about plastic particles. The 14- x 15-inch size provides plenty of surface area to tackle kitchen tasks without getting too wet too quickly.

Other perks? They’re “lint-free and quick drying,” and since the set comes with 15 towels, you’ll never be without one. You can shop them in a variety of colors, including white with a blue stripe, black stripe and red stripe.

These dishcloths have a whopping 33,300 perfect ratings from shoppers. “I use these towels in my kitchen for just about everything,” wrote one reviewer. Others can’t help but sing their praises for these kitchen towels. “You can use them for sucking up heavy spills, drying misty pieces right out of the dishwasher and blotting food,” wrote a second person. “They are 100% cotton, so they are great for all this, but the really impressive thing is the thickness of the cloth, which is totally unlike the typical flimsy kitchen towels you get,” they added.

Folks even note how useful it is to have this set (or two) on hand for keeping the kitchen clean and healthy. “Best to purchase many of these and use more than one a day, depending on what you are doing in the kitchen. Kitchen towels tend to be a high source of bacteria and you should rotate them often,” a happy shopper said, saying they’re “by far the best I have used.”

So stop using your old, raggedy, bacteria-laden kitchen dish towels and swap them for a practical set, a la Martha Stewart. These Zeppoli ones have glowing reviews, are 100% cotton and only cost $1.33 apiece.
