Over 100,000 Ice Cream Bars Recalled Due to Listeria



  • Over 100,000 Rich’s Ice Cream bars recalled in 23 states due to possible Listeria contamination.
  • Affected bars include flavors like Chocolate Crunch, Strawberry Shortcake and Cotton Candy Twirl.
  • Consumers should check lot numbers and dispose of or return affected bars immediately.

There’s an active recall on over 100,000 ice cream bars sold in 23 states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is due to a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The products impacted are the following flavors of Rich’s Ice Cream’s ice cream bars:  Chocolate Crunch Cake Bar, Strawberry Shortcake Bar, Rich Bar, Crumbled Cookie Bar, Orange Cream Bar, Fudge Frenzy Bar, Cotton Candy Twirl Bar, Savagely Sour Blue Raspberry Bar, Savagely Sour Cherry Bar and Cool Watermelon Bar. The packaging of these bars contain lot numbers “24351” through “25156.”

The recalled ice cream was distributed and sold to wholesalers in Nassau, Bahamas, as well as the following states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Check your freezer ASAP for the recalled ice cream, and if you have an affected bar on hand, dispose of it or return to your place of purchase for a possible refund. This recall was recently classified as a Class II recall, meaning that the recalled food “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

While there are no cases currently connected to this recall, Listeria infection (listeriosis) can lead to serious illness for those who are immunocompromised, pregnant, age 65 or older or for young children. Common symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, and they usually last for one to three days. Talk to a healthcare professional if you are showing signs of foodborne illness after eating one of the recalled ice cream bars.
