Prequel Hypochlorous Acid Spray 2025 Tested Review

Prequel Hypochlorous Acid Spray 2025 Tested Review

This statement might be met with fierce opposition, but I’m saying it: summer is my least favorite season. Between uncomfortably high temperatures, brutal NYC humidity, and sweat-induced breakouts, it’s safe to say I just don’t feel my best. This summer, in particular, has been scorching hot and muggy, and my skin is paying the price. It’s been oilier and significantly more breakout-prone than usual, so when I discovered a product that genuinely helps balance it and reduce breakouts, I was seriously overjoyed. If you’re dealing with similar skin frustrations or concerns, such as redness, irritation, or a compromised skin barrier, keep reading because I have a feeling this gem will become a staple in your skincare routine, too. Plus, it’s currently on sale for under $15 during the Amazon Prime Day Sale.

Prequel Skin Universal Skin Solution Hypochlorous Acid Spray

Hypochlorous acid has garnered considerable buzz in the skincare sphere lately. After using this skin solution spray from Prequel, a popular, dermatologist-created brand, loaded with the hero ingredient, I’m officially part of the fan club. In case you’re unfamiliar with the ingredient, hypochlorous acid is a type of acid our body naturally produces, and according to board-certified dermatologist Dr. Marisa Garshick, M.D., it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. She previously told Byrdie that it offers a host of skin benefits, such as calming redness and irritation, treating acne flare-ups, reducing skin sensitivity, and even helping with wound healing (fun fact: it’s often used in operating rooms). It’s also worth noting that, unlike other acids that treat breakouts—think salicylic and glycolic acids—hypochlorous acid is not exfoliating. It’s very gentle and suitable for all skin types (even sensitive), Garshick says.

Although I’ve used hypochlorous acid sprays before, this pick from Prequel is the one I’ve used most consistently; I’m talking once or twice daily for the last six weeks. I love that the spray itself is even and powerful (but not too much), so it’s pleasant to apply. It’s also pretty affordable, so I don’t hesitate to use a generous amount, usually five to eight sprays per application.

What this spray does for my skin

But what’s kept me coming back—and ordering backup bottles—is the wonders it’s worked for my skin. I’ve been playing a lot of tennis outside in extreme heat and humidity, and sweating more than I’d like to admit. I’ve noticed that I experience fewer breakouts and less irritation on my face and chest when I apply this product post-sweat sesh, compared to when I don’t. I’ve also noticed a visible improvement in redness, a decrease in excess oil, and a significant improvement in current breakouts.

I apply it after cleansing and before moisturizer (be sure to let the spray dry before applying other products on top of it to protect its efficacy) as part of my morning skincare routine, as well as post-workout on my face and chest. It feels nice and refreshing, and I also appreciate that the formula feels like water, so it layers seamlessly into my skincare routine and never leaves my skin feeling greasy or dry.

Other benefits I’ve noticed

This hypochlorous acid spray has truly transformed my skincare routine—incorporating it into my daily regimen has significantly benefited my skin in so many ways. In addition to using it daily and post-workout, I also recommend using it pre- and post-procedure, as well as before and after dermaplaning. I used to experience severe breakouts after dermaplaning, but since spritzing this on before and after, I’ve noticed fewer post-treatment spots. Whether you’re experiencing breakouts, redness, or irritation, or you’ve just been looking for a refreshing and calming face mist, I can’t recommend this Universal Skin Solution enough—especially while it’s on sale for Amazon Prime Day.
