Princess Charlotte Is Already Taking Style Cues From Mom Kate Middleton

When it comes to fashion, Princess Charlotte is taking after her mom, Kate Middleton.

Some looks are so iconic that they have endured for generations, becoming an integral part of the British royal family’s stylish dress code. Princess Charlotte wore just such a signature piece at the final of the European Women’s Football Championship—a dress that not only her mother Princess Kate regularly opts for, but which is also reminiscent of a long royal fashion tradition dating back to her grandmother, Princess Diana.

Her dark blue ruffled dress with white polka dots was immediately reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s style and fits seamlessly into the wardrobe of the style-conscious royals. Accompanied by her father Prince William, Princess Charlotte not only provided a touching father-daughter moment at the stadium, but also paid sweet homage to the women in her family.

Whether on street style photos, catwalks, or in royal closets, polka dots are currently celebrating a huge revival. And for good reason, as the pattern is timeless and stylish, and can also be dressed up or down. Whether as an airy blouse with jeans or in the form of a fitted dress for special occasions, polka dots always work. It’s no wonder that so many royal fashion icons also rely on the pattern.

Polka dots are a tradition in the royal family. Diana loved polka dot dresses and wore them again and again in the ’90s. Kate later picked up on this style and made the polka dot dress an integral part of her signature look. At a memorial service at Westminster Abbey in May, she appeared in a black and white dress that looked like a modern twist of an iconic Diana look.

Princess Charlotte’s outfit also has a royal predecessor. Kate Middleton wore a very similar dress, also in dark blue with white polka dots, to the men’s final at Wimbledon 2022.
