Rihanna’s Pearly Pink Cat Eye Manicure Was Made for Summer Nights

Though I’m nowhere near as strong a jet-setter as those in, say, Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Summer Club camp, I’ve been doing some light summer traveling of my own recently. And you know what I’ve seen everywhere, regardless of country, neighborhood, or community taste profile? Smurfs movie advertisements.

While I admittedly don’t know much about those little blue beings, it’s been fun to share one fact when the posters appear in my line of vision: Rihanna is playing Smurfette. It’s actually so adorable she’s doing so, because you know her sons are all about it. On Sunday, July 14, she brought Riot and RZA to the movie’s Los Angeles premiere, holding their tiny hands while showing off the prettiest pearly-pink manicure.

Medium-long and filed into her go-to square shape, the 37-year-old’s nails were all painted a baby pink shade with a swirly, pearly finish. Sure, she could’ve done baby blue… but she’s Rihanna. Why be that obvious?

Celebrity manicurist Kim Truong dubbed the look a “Metallic Iridescent Pink” in an Instagram post breaking down the style. She started off by prepping the star’s nails with the ePHD Bond Repair Nail Treatment. “For long-lasting nail health, apply to bare nails before polish or under the tips during gel wear. For extra protection, use it as a weekly treatment to combat brittleness and prevent breakage,” she explained.

Then, she went in with the polish. First came Aprés Nail’s Base Gelcoat “for a smooth, even surface.”

“Apply one coat of Gel Couleur Flushed from the Light and Shadow Collection, a sheer blush pink that adds soft elegance,” she added. “Then, layer with Kuromi’s Pretty Journey for a magnetic, cat-eye pink effect—activate with a magnet for that perfect dimensional glow. Seal with Non-Wipe Top Gelcoat for a lasting, high-shine finish, and hydrate the cuticles with Aprés Cuticle Oil to complete the look.”

If you want to make it easy on yourself at home, there are a couple of other options out there for getting the look. You might have some hands to hold later (on a date to Smurfs, perhaps??), and should be prepared. OPI’s shimmery rose quartz Quest For Quartz is lovely, as is Manucurist’s Carnation. You won’t have the cat eye magic, but the color and shimmer will be there.

The rest of the soon-to-be mom of three’s look was similarly sweet. She kept the pink tones going through her makeup with rosy cheeks and some impressively shiny lip gloss. Her dark hair was worn piled on top of her head, and her baby bump was on full display in a silky and lacy brown Saint Laurent dress tied with an olive green ribbon.

As her dates, the boys wore tiny Dior Men’s looks. Someday, they’ll realize how cool this is. And even more so, how amazing it is that their mom is Rihanna. But for today, she’s Smurfette. They probably got some popcorn and M&Ms, and I’m sure that counts for something even bigger.
