Samsung is reportedly making UI improvements to its triple-folding phone — and it could be a productivity beast
At some point in the next five months Samsung is supposed to reveal its long-rumored tri-folding Galaxy G Fold smartphone. At the beginning of August, Samsung confirmed that it was going to launch the device before the end of 2025 — one rumor suggests October.
Unlike Samsung’s usual foldables or its flagship Galaxy S lineup, there haven’t been many leaks around what specs G Fold could feature. We do know that it’s supposed to feature three phone-sized panels as part of the main unfolded display.
According to a new leak from SammyGuru, Samsung is going to optimize its One UI 8 software for the new display layout.
They claim that you’ll be able to run three apps side by side on the screen. This function, dubbed “split trio” can be added to the home screen, taskbar or Edge panel and organized either horizontally or vertically.
From there, SammyGuru says that cover screen mirroring, already available on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, will be changed to for G Fold. Right now, the feature displays the cover display as two pages on the interior screen.
On the tri-fold, it will spread across all three panels and can be customized depending on how you want it organized. You can see an example in the video from SammyGuru above.
Potential release month
Beyond the confirmation that the G Fold is coming this year, Samsung hasn’t provided an exact date yet. It’s possible it could launch with the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE, which Samsung has said will get an earlier debut this year.
Last year, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE released on October 3 after a late September announcement. So, a potential early or mid-September release could be in the cards.
Of course, Samsung may want to release the G Fold separately to let the device get its own shine outside of the more budget-friendly FE device.
