Selena Gomez’s Ponytail Is Gravity-Defyingly Swoopy

There was a time when ponytails were considered too casual or juvenile to work for a fancy event. Brides, prom-goers, celebrities on red carpets—an updo had to be a legit updo. But times have changed (thank goodness) and hairstylists have been able to do glamorous things with ponytails that would put chignons to shame. And there’s no better proof than how Selena Gomez wore her hair for the Rare Beauty Eau de Parfum launch party.

From the look of the images shared on Gomez’s Instagram Stories, the multihyphenate was serving up bridal inspo from head to toe in a gorgeous white halter dress styled by Erin Walsh. But while she could have easily married fiancé Benny Blanco in this look, she wore it to celebrate the launch of her beauty brand’s first fragrance, a blend of spicy and gourmand notes. And those sweet vibes carried over into her hair with a super girly pony.

Makeup artist Hung Vanngo shared a close-up Reel of the incredible glam he did on Gomez—a spicy smoky eye, truly glowing skin, and glossy lips in a tawny tone—but it also showed off her hairstyle by Renato Campora. The mid-height ponytail starts with a sleek, middle-parted base with subtly swooped edges. The rest of the hair is pulled back into a thick, smooth, bouncy swath that swoops up so dramatically at the ends that we’re waiting with bated breath for Campora to reveal which hot tool and hairspray made this possible.
