Taylor Swift Orange Is Already Becoming the Color of the Year

Mocha Mousse may be Pantone’s Color of the Year, but with the announcement of Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, there’s some color competition: Enter Taylor Swift orange.
While the official album announcement came via a clip from Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, hints posted from fan page Taylornation centered the tangerine hue from the very beginning. Taylor Swift, who wore plenty of orange onstage during her Eras Tour (thanks to designers like Roberto Cavalli and Versace), seems to now be embracing the color full-on, swapping her signature red lipstick for a new hue and even toting the album to Kelce’s studio in a teal box with a carrot-colored “TS” on the outside.

Swift has found herself a sartorial match in Kelce—the September GQ cover star seems to also be a fan of fashion (they coordinate outfits!), so you may see him adding some Swift-approved orange into his own off-duty wardrobe over time. Though, of course, red, gold, and white will remain his primary colors on the field.
As for Swift, during her Midnights era there was plenty of purple (“Lavender Haze,” anyone?) and The Tortured Poets Department was all about a desaturated black and white vibe. Orange is a turn in an optimistic and playful direction, though we don’t have any official information on why it’s the color of choice for album 12. But if Swift’s signature Easter eggs ahead of the new album are anything to go by, we can expect to start seeing more sunset-colored hues in her wardrobe. And, of course, fans will do the same.
