The 5 Best Body Mists of 2025, Tested by a Beauty Editor

I’m calling it—it’s officially the summer of the body mist. Some of our favorite brands are dropping their versions of this year’s buzziest product, with scents more upscale and modern than the industry has seen before. But—why the sudden resurgence? Experts say that fragrance is one of the fastest-growing beauty categories, and customers are seeking new ways to experience it. “Today’s consumers are craving fragrance experiences that are fun, accessible, and easy to personalize. Body mists offer all of that,” says perfumer Gil Clavien. “They allow for generous spritzing, reapplication throughout the day, and layering with other products, making them a flexible and approachable way to explore scent. They also offer hydration benefits, adding a sensorial and functional layer that resonates with how people want to experience beauty today.”
To find the best body sprays, I sniffed a couple of the most popular options to determine my favorites—rating each pick based on its notes, lasting power, added skin benefits, and overall scent. I also tapped perfumers and fragrance experts to learn more about what makes a body mist formula special. Ahead, find the ones that have earned a permanent spot in my collection.
What makes a body mist different from a perfume?
“The biggest difference lies in concentration,” says Clavien. “Body mists typically contain less fragrance oil and more water than perfumes, making them lighter and more refreshing. They’re ideal for allover application—on the body, hair, and clothes.” Flower Shop Perfumes CEO Isaac Lekach notes that body sprays contain about a 3-5% concentration of fragrance oil, while eau de toilettes have 10% and eau de parfums have 12-20%.
What We Like
Rejuvenating, green scent that works for day and night
Long-lasting on the skin and clothes
Chic packaging
Made with hydrating ingredients
Key Notes: Neroli, bergamot, basil, tuberose, lavender, eucalyptus, shiso leaf | Size: 3.4 oz | Cruelty-Free: Yes
Grounding, meditative, and herbaceous, this fragrance from Salt & Stone evokes the scent of a fresh, blooming garden. Ever since my first spray, I haven’t been able to put it down. With a fairly strong sillage, it’s more similar to a perfume than a body mist—yet it’s the most refreshing pick of the list. The fragrance leans earthy and citrusy, with notes of neroli, basil, eucalyptus, and shiso, but French lavender and tuberose add a subtle, creamy softness. I can still smell it after hours of wear, and it retains its presence even after being outside in the sticky summer heat. Aside from the scent itself, the formula has red algae and glycerin to add hydration to the skin—so you can apply liberally knowing that it smells good and is good for you. While I wouldn’t carry the glass bottle in my bag as it could break easily, I love how chic the minimalist packaging looks on my vanity.

What We Like
Juicy, refreshing orange notes
Comes with a lot of product
Vegan formula made with clean ingredients
Key Notes: Spanish blood orange, ginger, mandarin, amber, moss, Haitian vetiver | Size: 8.1 oz | Cruelty-Free: Yes
Fruity fragrances can seem childish, but this mist is anything but. Like a lemonade on a hot summer’s day, the juicy fragrance is energizing but still leaves you thirsty for more. The Spanish blood orange and mandarin notes are intense in the opening, but ginger and amber shine through in the dry down—creating a spicy, citrusy scent that’s fun and playful. The fragrance it creates is perfect for the heavy summer humidity—it mixes well with sweat, and it’s a great pick-me-up to get you through the day. I also love that it’s made without parabens and synthetic dyes, so it won’t cause irritation to the skin or disrupt hormonal balances. The little things make this mist one of my favorites—including the even, fine spray and the opaque, sturdy packaging (so it’s less exposed to the sun). It also comes with double the amount of product as many other options, so you can spritz as much as you desire.

Key Notes: Raspberry, vanilla blossom, cane sugar, cashmere musk, oud | Size: 3.4 oz | Cruelty-Free: Yes
Not your mother’s classic vanilla fragrance, this mist from Maison Louis Marie is sugary sweet with a sultry touch. With notes of vanilla blossom, raspberry, and cane sugar, it’s creamy and comforting, yet maintains a luxurious aura. The opening is reminiscent of vanilla sugar without being cloying, and the cashmere musk and oud come through the longer you wear it—creating a mature scent that’s perfect for nighttime. It’s an excellent choice for an upscale occasion where you’re dressing to impress, like a night at the ballet or a formal dinner. It has the longest wear of the bunch that I tested—lasting for hours on the skin and my clothes—and it’s alcohol-free and safe to apply to the hair. The spritz is pretty uneven and can spray in big chunks, but the scent is so good that I still can’t help but spray it multiple times a day.

Key Notes: Cotton blossom, lily of the valley, rose, jasmine, musk | Size: 3.9 oz | Cruelty-Free: Yes
This By Rosie Jane mist is light and calming, like freshly washed linen sheets on a weekend morning. Crisp and classic, this scent is perfect when you need a refresh. The first spray brings out the ivory musk and cotton base, and the fragrant florals—including rose, lily of the valley, and jasmine—take over as the scent settles more into the skin. It’s slightly soapy, so it makes you instantly feel cleansed and refreshed. While the fragrance is very lightweight, it projects well and lingers for quite a while—but the bottle itself is small and portable to carry with you for mid-day applications. I can see this becoming my go-to for late summer, but the white florals would also make an excellent match for fall and winter weather. While the packaging isn’t as sophisticated as other options, it’s made with a sustainable, recyclable material to limit waste.

Key Ingredients: Bergamot, almond, vanilla | Size: 3.3 oz | Cruelty-Free: No
L’Occitane’s signature sweet almond fragrance takes on a new life in this hair and body mist, which also has notes of bergamot and warm vanilla. The gourmand scent reminds me of an almond croissant with sugar on top—powdery with just a hint of sweetness. It comes in a gorgeous glass bottle, making it a lovely addition to my fragrance collection. The scent makes me feel clean and freshly powdered—so it’s become my favorite to spritz right after showering and before going to bed. I spray on my sheets as well, making my bed even more comforting. This mist is perfect if you want to smell sophisticated, elegant, and, of course, very French.

Other Options I Tested
Fragrance is subjective, so an option I didn’t love could still be your new favorite. Here are a few that almost made the cut.
Glossier Body & Hair Fragrance Mist: While I thought both Glossier scents (Sandstone and Orange Blossom Neroli) could be crowd-pleasers, they felt a little too generic and paled in comparison to others I tested. I also found the packaging to be underwhelming—I wish it had more of that signature Glossier playfulness.
Phlur Peach Skin Body & Hair Fragrance Mist: I am obsessed with this scent—it has a nostalgic peach soda fragrance. However, I feel like the mist disappears from the skin as soon as I step outside. But, I still love to spray it at home when I need a refresh, and it’s a great scent for summer, regardless.
What to Look for in a Body Mist
- Scent Family: Body mists share the same scent families as perfumes, including gourmand, floral, fresh, and more. “Choose a scent profile that fits your mood or personality, whether it’s sweet and fruity, warm and musky, or clean and floral,” says fragrance expert Octavia Morgan. Need help deciding? Look toward your go-to perfumes in your collection. If you find that your favorites lie in one family, it might be your best bet to start there.
- Ingredients: Body mists are primarily water-based and typically contain ingredients that help hydrate the skin. I like to spritz liberally all over the body, so I consider any added skin benefits a major plus. I recommend options that can lock in moisture with ingredients like glycerin or essential oils. If you have sensitive skin, Morgan advises scanning the ingredient list for any potential irritants. Look for options formulated without alcohol if you plan to spray in the hair, as the ingredient can be drying on your locks.
- Lasting Power: You shouldn’t expect your body mist to last as long as a perfume, but it should remain on the skin for several hours. When trying out options, pay attention to how long you can smell it on your skin and clothes—and how well it lasts through the elements, such as heat and humidity.
- Size: Body mists are the ideal fragrance to bring and spray on the go, as they’re not as strongly fragranced as a perfume. If that’s your main goal with a mist, look for options that are smaller in size and lighter in weight. While glass bottles are more attractive, a plastic container may be easier to carry around in your purse.
How We Tested Body Mists
To find the best body mists, I conducted research on the highest-rated formulas as well as the most anticipated launches. I used multiple a day during the testing period, rating each based on their overall scent profile, lasting power, and other skin benefits—such as hydration or fortifying ingredients. I also considered which were great for everyday use, day or night, and how often I wanted to reach for one again and again. Formulas received extra points for a satisfying opening and dry-down scent, as well as lasting multiple hours on the skin and clothing. Options that caused irritation to the skin were not included.
