This K-Beauty Jelly Blush Is So Satisfying—and on Sale for $13

Look, I’m serious about my makeup—ingredients matter, brand claims are meant to be scrutinized, and ‘hyped-up’ doesn’t mean high quality. But facts are facts: When something is undeniably cute, my heart softens a little. It just so happens that Fwee’s Glowy Jelly Pot has the beauty, the brains, and measures right up in all of its squishy-sweet, bouncy-blushy glory. And because it complements my natural sheen (yes, a little sweatiness is kind of a vibe) rather than sitting on my skin like a powdery film, it’s been a godsend in the NYC summer heat.
Stateside beauty brands might just now be catching on, but jelly blushes have already been popular in Asia for a while, says Charlotte Cho, cofounder of Soko Glam and K-beauty expert. “The jelly blush trend originated in Korea, where brands like Rom&nd and Dasique have become known for innovative textures and skin-care-infused color products that help achieve a glass-skin or dewy finish.” In a similar vein to Fwee’s Blurry Pudding Pot influencing summer makeup trends, right here and right now, the Glowy Jelly Pot is poised to do the same.
Let’s get into the stuff you’re here for: This K-beauty blush delivers a springy dose of sheer color (just as pretty on lips as it is on cheeks), all housed in a crystalline case whose sturdiness continues to impress me. If that wasn’t enough, you don’t need a single tool to apply the product. “[Jelly blushes] blend easily with fingers, eliminating the need for brushes or sponges, and give a natural, flushed finish that truly looks like skin,” explains Cho. Plus, the “jelly” of it all scratches a little itch in my brain. It’s just so satisfying.
To apply, I gently press my finger into the gel, which offers a bit of bounce with each poke. Just a few taps load my fingertip with pigment (a single tap won’t yield enough product), which I then lightly pat onto the apples of my cheeks for a subtle, glowy flush. (For a bit more color payoff, you can also gently rub your finger pad against the product to warm and dispense it.) FYI, according to cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos, jelly blushes have a chemical composition very similar to standard cheek and lip tints—just with a different texture—so you can expect a comparable wash of color.
