Season 10 opens with a two-episode premiere a week apart and sees the team embark upon on what is being billed as their most dangerous mission yet – to Spike Island in Cork Harbour in the Republic of Ireland. Originally a monastery, then a fort and, in the mid-nineteenth century, the biggest prison in the British Empire. Colloquially, it is often referred to as “Ireland’s Alcatraz”.
At that point it was used to incarcerate many people arrested for stealing food during the famine of the 1840s so it would probably be more surprising if there were no reports of tormented souls haunting the island. And so the team are determined to record any activity there and – among the locations so far revealed – Bangor, Maine, the former hometown of horror author Stephen King.
