What to Watch in August 2025: “Freakier Friday”’s Nostalgia-Fueled Trip, “Outlander”’s Long-Awaited Prequel, and More

Somehow, it’s August and we’re only days away from the release of Freakier Friday, the follow-up to the beloved 2003 Disney hit movie Freaky Friday. (I know, the fact that it’s been 22 years is insane.)

It’s been nearly three years since Lindsay Lohan first mentioned the possibility of reuniting with costar Jamie Lee Curtis. Ever since then we’ve been hanging on to each actor’s every word. And having seen Freakier Friday at an advance screening a few months back, I can’t reveal much other than to say it’s been worth the wait.

The movie premieres in theaters only—for now, at least—on Friday, August 8, and we have interviews coming with Chad Michael Murray and Manny Jacinto that you won’t want to miss, especially once you see the film. Stay tuned for those.

Also next week: The long-awaited premiere of Starz’s Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, which will make household names out of the new cast. It’s a thrilling, nostalgia-fueled series that will delight Outlander fans, especially as we gear up to say farewell to the original Outlander in early 2026. I spoke with both Hermione Corfield (who plays Claire’s mother, Julia) and Jamie Roy (who plays Jamie’s father, Brian), and not only did they reveal some surprising information to me about their Outlander connections, but they have fascinating personal stories too. I can’t wait for you to read those.

Among other new releases: The Naked Gun, with rumored-to-be-dating costars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, hits theaters on August 1. Meanwhile, Wednesday season two drops next Wednesday (of course) on Netflix.

Oh, and Netflix’s new comedy Leanne is now available with all 16 episodes (each no more than 22 minutes). If you’re looking for a sweet binge watch in the comfort of your AC, then this is for you. You’ll love Leanne Morgan, who is so hilarious and heartfelt in this series.

With that, check out the rest of the listings this month. I’ll see you back here in September to preview The Office spin-off, The Paper, the fourth season of The Morning Show, and more.

Friday, August 1
