“Beyond the Villa”’s Kaylor Martin on Her Friendship Breakup With Liv Walker: “I Didn’t Want That to Happen”

When Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa stars Kaylor Martin and Liv Walker met on Love Island USA season six, they were inseparable. During their time in Fiji, Kaylor, 22, and Liv, 21, became quick friends and fan favorites, winning over audiences with their late-night chats and the way they hyped each other up before challenges. They were the ultimate girls’ girls. But it looks like their friendship didn’t last long beyond the villa.

Their friend breakup caught many fans by surprise, especially because immediately after Love Island season six wrapped, the girls were still going strong. In the first episode of Peacock’s Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa—the franchise’s first spin-off show, which explores the cast’s lives outside the villa—Martin shared that Walker, who is from Australia, even lived with Martin’s family in Pennsylvania for a few months after filming. All seemed well, with Martin joking, “She was becoming a better daughter than I was. I was like, ‘Chill on doing the dishes, babe.’”

But since the spin-off show was announced on June 9, fans have been speculating about whether Martin and Walker are still friends, with some noting that they had stopped posting pictures together on social media.

“I think that friends, especially girls, go through ups and downs,” Martin tells Glamour about where her friendship with Walker stands now. “They fight and they make up, and I’ll always love Liv and she’ll always be a sister to me.”

So what happened? By the end of the first episode of Beyond the Villa, which premiered last night, viewers finally learned why their favorite friendship was starting to crumble.

A few days before the season six Islanders reunited for a Love Island USA cast party in Los Angeles, Martin found out that Walker went to the club without her. During a confessional, Martin said she felt betrayed. “It hurts me because I feel like I’m being left out,” she said. “I’m ultimately hurt because I miss having an amazing best friend.” These frustrations, along with an off-camera issue, came to a head during the party, when Martin confronted Walker for excluding her.
